Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) is a leading medical university in Tbilisi, Georgia. More than 85 years have passed since Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded on the basis of the faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University (TSU).

On June 10, 1930, the Tbilisi University was reorganized and founded by the Tbilisi State Medical Institute, which became the new strongest incentive for higher medical education and medical science development in Georgia. During the establishment, the Institute had three faculties: medicinal-prophylactic (dental department), sanitary-prophylactic and pharmacologic-chemical. The medical faculty has been established at the time of almost 100-year history of the medical institute and has been established at various times: Pediatric (1931), Dental (since 1936), military-medicine (since 1993), medical biological (since 1994), psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy (since 1996). Currently, there are five faculties in the medical university: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, physical medicine and rehabilitation.

November 24, 1992 is a historic day for higher medical education in Georgia, started its new stage – Tbilisi State Medical Institute was transformed into Tbilisi State Medical University.  371 full professor, associate professor and assistant professor at the university; About 350 invited teachers are involved in the academic process.
