On July 20, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos made good on his promise and took off into space in the New Shepard spacecraft, created by his company Blue Origin. Together with him, three other people went on the flight – his brother Mark, 82-year-old former test pilot Wally Funk and 18-year-old Dutchman Oliver Damen, son of Joes Damen, CEO of the Dutch investment firm Somerset Capital Partners BV. Thus, today three records have been set – the richest man on the planet, the oldest and youngest astronauts in history, went into space. The flight lasted more than ten minutes. The maximum height that the capsule has reached is 107 km above sea level, the maximum speed is 3595 km / h. The first stage of the ship landed in automatic mode, the capsule with the crew landed by parachute.

Do you love space?

Did you know that scientists from the Kharkiv Polytechnic University are the only ones in Ukraine who create space satellites to study the atmosphere?

No one in Ukraine has ever launched satellites of the CubeSat standard before, these are special spacecraft. Such satellites are often built for educational purposes in universities, but they can also serve serious scientific and commercial purposes. Last year, two spacecraft of this class – WALL · I and Eva, as they are informally called – accompanied the American InSight spacecraft to Mars.

Students have the opportunity to join a group of scientists from KhPI and also engage in the development of not only satellites, but also other space inventions.

The device, created at the Kharjok Polytechnic University, took part in an international scientific project for the study of the Earth’s atmosphere. In addition to PolyITAN-2-SAU (as it was called), several other similar devices from different countries participated in the project. Its task is remote sensing of the Earth (ERS), or in simple words, photographing the Earth’s surface from space. In such pictures you can see the state of agricultural land, deforestation, the accumulation of military equipment and much more.

Scientists from KhPI remain the only ones in Ukraine who managed to create nanosatellites that successfully work in space.
